Birthday Cake!!!

Warning!!!

The following pictures may prove disturbing to those addicted to Chocolate or on a diet!!!

When asked what sort of cake she would like for her 16th Birthday, my daughter did not hesitate.

Bruce Bogtrotter's Cake (from Matilda) . From Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes.

This is The One.

It is easy, foolproof, uses simple ingredients, but above all is special in its moist, chocolatey, glistening chocolatey purity.

Oh. And did I mention it was chocolatey?

Over the years, if a large professional cake wasn't needed for an organised Birthday party, I always made this one - I love baking but I am not a cake decorator, so its all about the yummyness of the cake - and this one has never failed us, being hardened Chocolasauruses!

So I must share this cake with you all to celebrate Bella's 16th Birthday and to thank you for all your lovely Birthday Wishes for her.

Here's the Recipe

Ingredients

Cake
8oz plain chocolate
6 oz unsalted butter
8oz caster sugar
4 tblsp plain flour
6 eggs, separated

Icing
8oz plain chocolate
8oz double cream (this is about a 284ml carton of cream)

Instructions

(Note : I used ordinary slightly salted butter and granulated sugar as thats what I had - was no problem. I also like to add the cream after I've melted the chocolate for the topping)
Sorry, too lazy and pushed for time to type up whole recipe, hope you can read it - if not please let me know and I'll clarify any points.

Enjoy!!!

  15. Mmmmmm - yum. I've a very similar recipe that also uses beaten egg whites and it makes the cake so deliciously light, doesn't it.

That chocolate coating looks fabulous. My hips are groaning at the thought! :)
