Painted Furniture

To me, there is little more satisfying than spotting a sad old piece of vintage wooden furniture sitting forlornly in a charity or junk shop, once loved and used but now no longer needed, and not at all expensive, and giving it a whole new lease of life with a coat of paint!

I've been painting furniture for over 30 years now, first with whatever I had to hand, learning as I made mistakes along the way, then trying satinwood and eggshell paints, craft paints and emulsion paints and, more recently, the wonderful chalk based paints that are on the market that require no preparation, especially my all time favourite Annie Sloan Chalk Paints!

( Please note that this post is entirely my own writing and opinions and I am not being paid by or otherwise benefiting from any company whose products I mention in this post.)

My popular blog post on Hints on Painting Furniture was written a few years ago, so here I show a few more of the pieces of furniture that I have given new life to more recently, and which are now loved and used in my own home or are for sale in my shop.

This useful little table with shelf was bought from a charity shop. It's probably not that old but the top was damaged and it was an old fashioned dark stained wood, crying out to be painted!

I gave it a clean, then one coat of chalk paint in a soft grey colour. I then gently distressed it and waxed it using a clear wax. Once dry it was buffed to give a soft shine.

This pretty oak wheelback chair was a bit wobbly and stained but was a beautiful shape. Once glued and cleaned I mixed up my own colour paint using a few shades of chalk paint until I got a pale duck egg blue colour.

One coat of paint, a bit of sanding to distress, and a good wax and buff and it was transformed

More to follow!
