Inspiring Books, French Fabrics and a bit of Baking

Today I have set up a new page on my Blog featuring Books that I have come across, enjoyed, and that I think you might like too.

I hope (ha!) to add new books to this page regularly, to keep it updated (yes, probably as updated as I've kept my Flowers page and Made page, and my BlogShop - which is hardly at all! ) with books that are inspiring me now and which may inspire you also.

The french vintage fabrics mentioned in my last post arrived this morning.

a pretty Indienne type of fabric

taupe and off white ticking

a pretty country floral

and from a different seller, and from good old England, a new piece of traditional blue ticking

This cooler, almost autumnal weather we've been having this week has seen me eager to spend a little more time in the kitchen cooking.

So far this week I've made a vegetarian Green Thai curry with brown rice (Monday), vegetable soup (Tuesday) vegetable Parmigiana (yesterday, my version of Eggplant Parmigiana inspired by yummy photos at My Farmhouse Kitchen but I didn't have any aubergines!)

and also yesterday I rather excelled myself by baking a moist Banana and Walnut Loaf
(a variation on a recipe I shared here a few months ago)

and wholemeal Irish Soda Bread

So I've now made myself hungry and I'm off to have some of that bread for lunch!

Hope you all have  a great weekend!

PS  Don't forget to enter my Giveaway (on 11th July post, Its Giveaway Time finally...) if you haven't already, as it ends this weekend (Sunday)!

  3. Beautiful stuff - love the taupe stripe.....and the blue floral looks pretty much the same as one I have, called Kandahar from Sanderson. It's a 1970's fabric. If they are not the same then I'd say one definitely inspired the other. Very pretty design - I love it so much I am loathe to use it.

I need to do some banana bread too - we have a few seriously overripe bananas that need using up. You have inpsired me. :) Your bread looks stonkingly good. I've never tried to make soda bread but it looks like a must-do.

  4. Hello Gill:
We love ticking as an upholstery fabric and have been fortunate to find an excellent supplier in Brighton. Your vintage fabrics look so pretty and, we are sure, will look even more so when transformed into several of your lovely creations.

There is just nothing as wonderful as homemade bread [not that we can make it] and just a slice of your Soda Bread with butter would be food for the Gods as far as we are concerned.

  5. Hi Gill,

That books looks interesting! Love the fabrics you chose, especially the floral ones. Do you already know where you will use them for?

The soda bread looks good! I have heard a lot about it, but never really tasted it.

    Happy day!

    Lieve groet, Madelief x

  6. I make my own bread, though not as often as I should, but I've never made soda bread, it looks delicious. I love your French fabrics, especially that last floral one, so pretty. I don't know about autumnal weather, we're flagging in the heat here at the moment. I was just sorting out my tomatoes in the greenhouse but I've had to come inside as it's so hot. I hope the summer weather is finally here.
