the mice do play.....
Quick, quick, before he gets back!!!!!
Mr G has one of those all singing all dancing interviews today that last all day, with interviews and tests and presentations etc, so whilst he's away I got to be naughty! SSShhh!!!!!!
Before
After
One of a pair of old MFI pine chest of drawers that we've had about 20 years.
Have been meaning to paint them for ages, but every time I mention doing them I always get the old "why don't you finish the chairs/walls/ceiling/doors that you've already started" ;0.
Me?
Finish something?
Oh for heavens sake, now why would I want to do that when I can start something new!!!!
One down one to go. Better get on ;)
Hope you have a good day!
Great transformation - makes such a difference!

Like you, I have a bazillion things to finish! They also involve lots of painting! Which I should be doing now instead of blogging! Love the chest of draws, you did a beautiful job! The only thing that could improve them would be a photo with Logan! LOL!!! Have a wonderful day! I'm off the computer now because I feel guilty . . . going to paint!
ReplyDeleteWell done you! I've been meaning to do the same to ours for about two years now...
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to start something new and your drawers look lovely (ooops, that sounds a bit rude).
ReplyDeleteThe menfolk just don't get it do they?
ReplyDeletexx
You sound so like me?!!! Love the new project! Much more exciting than finishing all the boring old jobs that really should be done by the menfolk! Cx
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've been busy!

Well done, a great makeover.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Mr.G - hope all goes well.

I like your style!!!! Funnily enough, I mentioned to my hubby this very weekend that I rather fancy painting our old pine wardrobes white and, lets just say, he wasn't terribly supportive! Note to self, just do it next time! Your drawers look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteDo hope the interview went well.

Nice to do something different for a change.I think we all get the need ,or fed up,from sewing.I know I do .Cross stitching takes up so much of my time that I long to do some cushions or creations with material.I paintedsome of my furniture last year with a french blue but I think I shall liven it up with a new colour...obviously when I find inspiration and time...Ciao Alison ps The chest looks much better now ..shabby
ReplyDeleteThat looks great you did a smashing job ;-)) I love the fact you have left it a bit rustic looking to well done ;-))) Hope hubby likes it to. dee x
ReplyDeleteThat's my trouble. See something that doesn't move - paint it white/ivory/cream and shabby it up! Looks great anyway - well done! xx
ReplyDeleteA great result! He can hardly complain. Well done. Abby x
ReplyDeleteLove it! Do you mind me asking what paint you used? I want to paint our welsh dresser but I don't want to have to put in loads of sanding work. Mr TB wouldn't even notice if I did paint it but if I tell him first he'll say he likes it the way it is.

Tee hee, you sound like me too! Well done though it looks great. Thanks for your lovely comments Gill. It is my daughters First Communion on Saturday, so there is much excitement in our house this week! Love Linda x
ReplyDeleteA triumph! xxx
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! I know what you mean about it being more fun to start something than finish off boring old jobs. I have a few of those around here too :)
ReplyDeleteI love this transformation!!! Please tell us how to transform our old furniture. Did you paint it with a brush?
ReplyDeleteIt's a new beginning that will last at least another 20 years!!!
Have a great week!
Chris :o)
Thanks for your comments!
ReplyDeleteTickety-Boo, I used two coats of satinwood paint for this chest, Crown "Cream White" non-drip satin (doesnt sound as alluring as a F & B colour does it!!!!!)but it dries quickly with a light sheen and as it takes about a half can its a cheaper makeover than using F & B - anyway its what i had in the house!
Squirrelhaus, I will do a tutorial very soon as they are many ways to transform furniture depending on the final look you want to achieve.
But if you are mad keen to get going, you can't go far wrong by just sanding, wiping, brush (wider brush will be quicker)on a few coats of emulsion (prob 3)allowing to dry in between, a light sand all over to get smooth finish, harder sanding in areas you want to "age", then antique wax or clear varnish to protect.
Your post today made me smile! I have been painting furniture for years now and Mr P was not too thrilled about it at first - but now he loves it!! I have got my eye on a couple of chairs to paint right now, as soon as I've done the garden bench and the two beehive composters...Hope you're having a happy week and the painting has gone well!

You are so funny! Years ago I got so sick of seeing horrible old carpet in my bathroom I pulled it all up whilst the cat was away! Your chest of drawers look really good painted up.
ReplyDeleteThey look fantastic. Tell him to go away more often - there's no knowing what you might achieve!
ReplyDeleteYour post is perfect timing for me as since I painted an old table for sewing, I have been trying to decide whether to tackle the yukky orange pine furniture in the spare room. Thanks for showing your chest of drawers it looks terrific, I am definately inspired now but could I ask if you did loads of sanding first? x
ReplyDeletei need to do this...love seeing logan and bessie on the sidebar...just coming back from a 6 week blogging slump....and happy to be back..i've missed you, my friend
