Friday Flea

Thankyou everyone for your Birthday Wishes!

So many lovely comments, it was overwhelming - makes it easier to bear the 26th anniversary of my 25th Birthday as Mary at Ocean Breezes and Country Sneezes said - I like that!

I had a great day - a very good friend came for lunch bearing a wicked looking chocolate cake, and my daughter cooked me a lovely dinner with prawns in the evening.

Didn't see poor Mr G all day - a Birthday Card and a quick peck on the cheek and he was gone from 7.30am until the early hours of the morning on referendum duty.

Popped along to the Flea market this morning and came away £20 poorer, but with a good little haul of table linen and a tapestry, all vintage and all French.

A Tapestry cushion cover, supposed to be quite old and French but I'm no expert, and the lady selling is a dealer with many years experience so I'm sure she's right!

The rest of the linen haul were all French vintage cotton napkins, provencal type prints, and all in blues, whites and yellows

The blue and white ones are a set of six

The yellow napkin below Heather gave me free as its had a small piece cut out of it

and a tablecloth

Also found a very large cream enamel jug (new).

A vintage silk souvenir scarf came in the post today too - I love its bright colours!
I will probably put this in my blog shop next week if anyone is interested in it.

It has pictures of a Koala,  a Kookaburra, a Kangaroo, and lots of other animals and plants indiginous to South Australia.

On Wednesday we took Logan for his first grooming session.
It was well overdue, poor Logan could hardly see!

Before (taken Tuesday afternoon)

and after

Isn't he a smart boy!!!!

He has just about forgiven me now - all day yesterday he didn't follow me around as often, and he didnt lick me and fuss me all the time as usual, and I hated it!

Am used to being adored
by him, cos I'm the Chicken Lady (he loves chicken!)!

I guess he'll get over it!

Hope you had a great day!

  1. Gill, I'm so sorry I missed sending you birthday wishes! Happy birthday anyway, sounds like you had a lovely day - that cake looks wonderful. And Logan is very smart with his new haircut. I'm also fascinated by the wonderful flower photo - is it really just a daisy? It's incredibly beautiful. Makes me want to make a granny square with something like that in the centre.... if I do, is it ok if I use your photo and link to your blog?

  2. I had to avert my eyes from that cake - Linda at Flowers on My Table also has a picture of cake up - your banana bread I think - and that had me salivating all over my keyboard...and now this! I think it's time to stop thinking about supper and go and make it.

Those first two napkins are beautiful. The designs remind me of a vintage Sanderson fabric I have called, I think, Kandehar. Such fresh yet vibrant colours. The French do fabrics so so well. And wine..and cheese....and bread.....yeah I'm off to my kitchen.

Lovely that your birthday was good. Have a super weekend - weather looks promising!

  4. Love the before and after photos of Logan. When our dog Charlie goes to the groomers I always swear it's a different dog that comes home - one that looks very young and feeling a bit sorry for himself rather than the old shaggy but happy dog that went to be groomed!
    Lovely napkins!

  5. June, thats exactly what we've been saying! "They must have swapped him", and "where's our boy gone, we want him back" etc!!!
They seem to undergo a temporary personality change - our previous dog was like that too!
I must say today he has been a lot more like the old "smelly hairy bear" that we love!!!

Glad you had a lovely birthday, sorry I missed sending birthday wishes, I have been neglecting blogland lately - just so busy.
That was an amazing lot of goodies for £20. You have an eye for the bargains!
Logan does look gorgeous and I'm sure chicken lady will regain his affection quickly!
You have posted so many gorgeous bakes and cakes; I think it's time for some baking here too!

  22. Hi Gill. Many, many belated birthday wishes. Think I shall adapt that brilliant 'anniversary of' phrase for my 'life begins birthday' at the end of the year!

I sooo want to get Bertie groomed again but, frankly, the last and only time he was groomed, he (and my hubby) suffered from post traumatic stress disorder for three days!!! Tell Logan he looks very smart.

Your flea market finds are wonderful - how beautiful is that tapestry?!

Thank you so, so much for your lovely comment re your daughter's schooling - it meant so much and truly did help. x

  26. The opening of your post made me chuckle!!!! Wow, great finds at the Flea Market! I hope to catch one or two tomorrow!

Logan looks great in his big boy hair cut! LOL!!! When Duke goes we have to make a big deal out of it when he comes home - he hates going too! My brother says he's the only dog he knows that changes breeds when he goes to the groomer!!!

It's Mother's Day in the U.S., hope you have a Happy Mother's Day!
