Tapestry Crochet and CAL

Hello everybody, hope it's not too wet and windy where you are.

Thanks for all your comments on my last few posts, and hope you are all having a day full of love.

It's lucky that these pretty carnations hubby bought me weeks ago are still going strong, 'cos I don't suppose I'll be getting any fresh ones today.........or maybe he was being extremely efficient and calculating forward thinking when he bought them, knowing how well they last, thinking they would see me through today?!!

Maybe he'll surprise me when he comes home?
Fat chance says my daughter!

Anyway, there's been plenty of crochet love going on here today whilst I give in to a cold. With a sore throat and headache I have spent a large amount of time on the sofa today, with daughter, dog and crochet hook for company, trying to suss out a new pattern.

I have been having a go at tapestry crochet, using a chart, and using a pattern from Jan Eaton's 200 Crochet Blocks.

Probably not the best time to do it with a muzzy head after a sleepless night, and the first attempt was way off!  Sadly the pattern lacked explanation of how to tackle the colour changeover so it lined up neatly, and so my first go was a learning curve until I worked out what I was doing wrong.

See how the bottom pair (in the photo below) doesn't line up along the middle where the colours join!

I discovered I was missing crocheting into a crucial dc when I changed colour, as bringing the new wool in kind of covered up this dc, so as a result I was getting a crooked join and losing a stitch. But it took me a while to work out what I was doing wrong.

I got Bella to take some photos of the correct method at this crucial point so I didnt forget in the future (if I don't finish the project quickly and have to pick it up at a later date) as well as annotating the pattern in the book, and if the project turns out ok I will do a tutorial too.

A sickly me struggling to work it out with the dog snuggled up for company.

And then, after much crocheting, voila!!!

Sorted!

These are the colours chosen for the next square......I will then join lots of these squares together to make a cushion cover.

I selected a palette of blues, greens and turquoises from my stash for this project.

Joining up with the CAL with Chrissie Crafts and Ladybird Diaries today, as I have something new to share other than crochet trimmed pillowcases!

So what with the weather foul again today, this about sums up our day.........I like how Logan appears to be copying the position of his favourite turquoise toy........he fetched all these toys out of his toy basket and  then decided it was all too much effort.

Wishing you all  a Happy Valentine's Day evening, and a good weekend!

Edited to add Mr G came up trumps with a card, wine and more carnations! (He believes in value for money being an Accountant, and carnations last the longest and seem to be the cheapest!!! )

  5. Bizarre! I did a double-take looking at these squares of yours. I had been reading my Jan Eaton Compendium of Crochet Stitches today and some of the same pics and ideas must have been used in both books! :)
    Hope you feel better soon,

  11. It must be the time of year and weather outside, because our house seems to be identical to yours, nursing colds, feeling rather blah...but still trying to be creative! Your crochet is simply splendid! I've never tried tapestry crochet, I love the look of yours, so I'm going to have to seek out a good tutorial! The colours you've chosen are gorgeous all together, that's going to be a beautiful cushion! Take care of yourself, I recommend adopting the pose of your pretty pooch and let everyone wait on you all weekend! Chrissie x

  19. Hello Gill, sorry to hear you are under the weather. You did very well to tackle a new project when you weren't feeling the best. It looks really lovely, I like the plainness of it and your colours are very cheerful.Logan is such a cute little dog. Well done Mr. G for coming up trumps, I am afraid mine kept to form! Nevermind, I shall buy some lovely flowers for myself next time I go to the wholesalers.
It has been a little stressful sorting out schools, but I do think it has actually turned out better than planned. Is Bella settling in well now? I am sure it has been a challenging time for all of you.
I am pleased with how things are going at the shop. Thank you for your lovely message. Have a great weekend, with love, Linda xx
