A Few Cushions

1930's reproduction fabric patchwork cushions with embroidered hearts

Red gingham and white linen Chicken Scratch embroidered heart cushion
with vintage embroderie anglais trim

Antique European linen grain sack cushions............made from a beautiful textured thick linen grain sack with red stripes, these look wonderful in pale country style interiors with French, Scandinavian or Prairie style influences.......they look brilliant on my white sofa, and would look equally good on brown leather.

All of these cushions are now listed in my Etsy Shop here

I will be adding quite a few more vintage fabric cushions over the next week or so in various different styles, including some beautiful 1930's and 40's Bavarian pale florals, pretty 1950's pastel florals from the US, and bright 1960's and 70's patchwork cushions.

Thank you for all your comments on my last post!
I am slowly working my way through everyone's blogs, enjoying your beautiful Spring flowers, Easter trips, sewing and crochet projects and just generally catching up with you.

Happy May Day, supposedly the first day of Summer (according to wiki) !!!!

Well, it doesn't feel like it here at the moment, but hey, its not raining, there's a tin full of homemade blackberry muffins and a free day ahead to sew and add cushions to my shop - a rare day!

Have a good day wherever you are.

Pincushions Galore!

Just a very quick post, before I go to make dinner, to share with you the sweet little lavender scented patchwork pincushions I've just made from vintage French and English fabrics.

From my stash I found some lovely vintage French blue Toile de Jouy which I combined with vintage ticking and linen, and some English vintage pink and pale turquoise toile fabric.....the fabrics are so pretty.

Filled with soft filling and a little lavender, they just need the open bit stitched together which I shall do tomorrow in natural light.

They will then be listed in my Etsy Shop.

The little hessian pincushions below were put into my Etsy Shop today.

They are made with vintage white linen and backed with blue and cream striped ticking, and the frayed  hessian patches are stamped with sewing-themed words, and stitched to the linen with red stitches.

They too have a little lavender inside to give a gentle lavender scent when in use.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Spring Flowers and Pincushions

Both of these pincushions are now for sale in my Etsy Shop here

Spring arrived at the weekend!

Having spent most of last week beavering away with the pink popcorn baby blanket, the weekend was spent working in the garden.

Here are a few snapshots of the flowers in the garden at the moment.

I also made another couple of vintage linen mini-pillow style pin cushions, shown at the start of the post......a pretty 30's feedsack peachy pink one and a pale delicate lilac floral.

These are now both available in my Etsy Shop here, along with a few more pincushions I have listed today.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and thank you for all your comments on my last post.
Have a good week!

Pink Popcorn Flowers

Well there's one positive thing to be said for being unwell - it gives you plenty of time to crochet without feeling guilty that you ought to be doing something else!

Also I have been blogging much more!

Remembering that I need to start a baby blanket soon for a friends's daughter who is expecting a little girl, I spent a little time last evening looking for inspiration on Pinterest, and decided that I wanted to make a popcorn flower motif.

Having seen my friend Jane's lovely popcorn flower blocks in the flesh last week may also have influenced me and been in the back of my mind when deciding on this block.

I can see this blanket being kept simple, just lots of little pink popcorn flowers with buttery yellow centres, surrounded by white, joined together, and with a pretty decorative white edging. I have used Sirdar Calico DK yarn for this, a 60% cotton 40% acrylic yarn - it is lovely and soft.

From Pinterest I found this blog, Color 'n Cream, with a lovely clear tutorial sharing how to make this particular block. I adjusted the pattern a little after making up the first one, and am very happy how pretty these are looking, although I was hoping for something a little larger as I am worried I won't be able to make enough in time to finish - or rather, if I'm honest, and knowing myself, I worry I will lose interest and not finish it!

I may keep looking for another larger block before I commit to making up any more of these little cuties - I do love them and I think they would make up into a sweet little cot blanket, but for the moment I shall look a little more.

I have also made lots more progress with the tapestry crochet cushion cover.

Am liking how the colours work together, and it is being given a little rest whilst I make a few decisions - like how much bigger to make it, and whether to make it square or rectangular, and what sort of joining method to use.

This design makes up really fast and is satisfying to do. If it ever gets finished When it is finished I will share how I did it.

It will clearly need blocking before finishing, and although I started out following the chart for one block, I wish I had the foresight to have started a larger one that could have constituted a whole cushion front without the need to join. As it is, I have continued adding blocks to the original two blocks to minimise joins.

My thinking at the moment is that I may add a third 4-square block to each strip and turn it sideways making a rectangular cushion with only one centre join.

What do you think?

Meanwhile I have made another couple of sales via my Etsy Shop which has perked me up a lot.
Maybe next week, when I'm feeling better, I will put the Spring products that I have assembled ready for listing into the shop. I am hoping for some bright sunshine to be able to take some good photos.

Hope you have all had a great weekend. Thank you for your lovely comments on my last post, and welcome to my few new followers!

Have a good and creative week!
