Well there's one positive thing to be said for being unwell - it gives you plenty of time to crochet without feeling guilty that you ought to be doing something else!
Also I have been blogging much more!
Remembering that I need to start a baby blanket soon for a friends's daughter who is expecting a little girl, I spent a little time last evening looking for inspiration on Pinterest, and decided that I wanted to make a popcorn flower motif.
Having seen my friend
Jane's lovely popcorn flower blocks in the flesh last week may also have influenced me and been in the back of my mind when deciding on this block.
I can see this blanket being kept simple, just lots of little pink popcorn flowers with buttery yellow centres, surrounded by white, joined together, and with a pretty decorative white edging. I have used Sirdar Calico DK yarn for this, a 60% cotton 40% acrylic yarn - it is lovely and soft.
From Pinterest I found
this blog, Color 'n Cream, with a lovely clear tutorial sharing how to make this particular block. I adjusted the pattern a little after making up the first one, and am very happy how pretty these are looking, although I was hoping for something a little larger as I am worried I won't be able to make enough in time to finish - or rather, if I'm honest, and knowing myself, I worry I will lose interest and not finish it!
I may keep looking for another larger block before I commit to making up any more of these little cuties - I do love them and I think they would make up into a sweet little cot blanket, but for the moment I shall look a little more.
I have also made lots more progress with the tapestry crochet cushion cover.
Am liking how the colours work together, and it is being given a little rest whilst I make a few decisions - like how much bigger to make it, and whether to make it square or rectangular, and what sort of joining method to use.
This design makes up really fast and is satisfying to do. If it ever gets finished When it is finished I will share how I did it.
It will clearly need blocking before finishing, and although I started out following the chart for one block, I wish I had the foresight to have started a larger one that could have constituted a whole cushion front without the need to join. As it is, I have continued adding blocks to the original two blocks to minimise joins.
My thinking at the moment is that I may add a third 4-square block to each strip and turn it sideways making a rectangular cushion with only one centre join.
What do you think?
Meanwhile I have made another couple of sales via my
Etsy Shop which has perked me up a lot.
Maybe next week, when I'm feeling better, I will put the Spring products that I have assembled ready for listing into the shop. I am hoping for some bright sunshine to be able to take some good photos.
Hope you have all had a great weekend. Thank you for your lovely comments on my last post, and welcome to my few new followers!
Have a good and creative week!
